The Kiribati Surf Association
A few days into a 10+ day sail from Darwin, Australia to Tarawa, Kiribati, my friend Dave and I decided it was time to do some research about the country we would soon be visiting. If you're like me, then you'll have never heard of Kiribati. This is for good reason. Kiribati is a collection of a few dozen islands scattered across the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. Today, only about 120,000 people live in the country on a total of 811 square kilometers of land. 811 square kilometers of land that's spread out across about 3.5 million square kilometers of ocean. See if you can find it on a map, good luck.

Thankfully for Dave and I, we had the worlds slowest internet connection and enough time and patience to get some use out of it. I dove into some research about the islands and Dave came across the Kiribati Surf Association. A few emails later and we had a phone number of a guy named Nick and simple instructions to give him a call when we got to the island.
